Private Island

“Tell me again why you wanted to look at this island?” Parker Jameson studied me from his position at the helm as he skipped across the waves.

I shoved hair out of my eyes, but the ocean breeze blew it back again. “For years, I’ve longed to buy a private island. I need to escape work responsibilities and the drudgery of my daily life.” I gazed out over the expanse of blue. Nothing for as far as my eyes could see. An introvert’s dream. “I’m looking for a breezy bungalow. One with a generator, an internet connection, stove, microwave, refrigerator, computer. Oh, and there must be endless bookshelves I can fill with books.”

“What about food?” he asked.

“I’ll have food and writing supplies delivered every two weeks and a cell phone for emergencies. I’ll buy a boat I can use to reach the mainland. Other than that, I’ll be content here on my own.”

“Won’t you be lonely? No friends or family around.”

“I’m sure I’ll manage.” He doesn’t get it. I’ll spend my days writing in harmony with the ebb and flow of the tumbling surf. Ah, Heaven…

“Is there a special someone who might join you…romantically speaking?” He waggled his eyebrows at me and grinned.

I stared at him for a moment before replying. “You’re a realtor. Do you want to sell me the property, or not?”
