Thank you for this! I had a similar discussion last night with my family. I’ve spent my adult life working government Human Resources jobs. The U.S. government considers “race” and “ethnicity” as separate entities, and this is where we are led astray by labels. When we are unaware that the categories and definitions we’ve been taught differ from others, confusion and hurt feelings are the result. I was grateful for her sincere apology and learned a few key points myself from the ensuing discussions. May human empathy toward one another grow and thrive going forward.
