Her affliction materialized around age five,
and has endured over these many years.
Secluded in her sanctuary, she writes,
deep thoughts, hidden dreams, secret fears.

She wraps them in pretty packages,
labels each a different name.
Throws them into circumstances,
and pulls them out again.

She bashes them, then mends them,
for a time, anyway.
Holds them close, then sets them free,
to share with those who stay.

She washes and recycles them,
gives them different names
new homes, new clothes, new polish
but their core remains the same.

She must stay true to herself,
hone her voice, no caving in
to ego’s fear of bloody pen marks.
Let the metamorphosis begin.

Follow the frenetic compulsion,
capture truth, and reveal lies.
Channel the flow welling from beyond,
imagination to pages, let no stories die.
